With an accurate picture of Dietrich College's outreach and engagement efforts, we can:
- Learn about existing programs and partnerships: Forging new partnerships for a class or program takes time and effort. A catalogue of existing initiatives helps us build off established relationships instead of starting from scratch or duplicating efforts across colleges.
- Create strategies for deepening our partnerships: Collecting information about our outreach and engagement initiatives enables us to measure the impact Dietrich is having on our partner communities and to create strategies for increasing that impact in ways which align with our strategic plan.
- Identify common struggles and strengths: Communicating across projects helps us identify common needs and strengths so that we can allocate resources effectively.
- Celebrate and share our work: The Carnegie Mellon University President's Office has begun an effort to capture the university's regional impact. Coordinating the outreach and engagement efforts at Dietrich College allows us to accurately represent and recognize the incredible work we are doing in the context of the university. Information in this dashboard can be directly shared with the President's Office.
Dietrich College defines outreach and engagement as intentionally and respectfully building partnerships with groups outside of the university in order to collectively address societal challenges.
At Dietrich College, we believe that our community engagement efforts...
- are inherently linked to diversity, equity and inclusion
- must be driven by community goals
- support sustainable partnerships, rather than transactional relationships
- honor divergent views
- and lift communities within and outside of Dietrich College
